President Jonathan today August 28th launched the new national e-ID card at the Villa in Abuja. The new e-ID card which is powered by MasterCard is a multi-purpose card for identification, electronic signatures, and can be used for depositing money, withdrawing and making payments. So it's both an ID card and ATM.

The first phase of the project will see 13million Nigerians issued the card while the next phase will target 100million Nigerians. The project is a partnership with MasterCard, the Nigerian National Identity Management Commission and Access bank. See more photos

ISIS militants yesterday released a video showing them executing about 300 Syrian soldiers they captured near the Tabqa air base as the soldiers attempted to flee the fallen air base in Raqqa, Syria.

They stripped the soldiers down to their briefs, took them to the desert, lined them up and executed them. Then hours later, they posted another video showing captured Kurd fighters wearing orange prison uniforms. This time they executed only one....beheaded him on video (pictured right)...while warning the Kurds to break from their alliance with the US government against the caliphate or face more capture and executions.

Islamic State also threatened America in the video, warning them to cease its support of the Kurdish people or they will continuing beheading prisoners, including Americans.

Detained NFF president Aminu Maigari released from police custody

Detained NFF president Aminu Maigari has finally regained his freedom along with fellow executive committee member Chris Green. He was released yesterday a day after he was arrested on Aug 26th.

“Maigari has been released by the security operatives. He was released in the morning from the special anti-robbery squad after he was handed to them by the Directorate of State Security Service. No charges were pressed against him, neither was he or Green questioned on anything. It was clearly to prevent them from attending the general assembly of Tuesday, which FIFA insisted be presided by Maigari.”” said an aide of the NFF boss.

'I'm taking 8 years break from acting to do politics' - Kate Henshaw

Actress Kate Henshaw has revealed she plans to take a break from acting to face politics squarely. When asked if she's quitting acting for politics in an interview with Sahara TV, Ms Henshaw said;

Doctors say most necks have 7 vertebrae but 15 year old Chinese boy Fu Wengui (pictured above) has 10. As a young boy he was diagnosed with Congenital Scoliosis and an abnormal chest frame which made his neck grow extra three inches. This causes him a lot of pain and makes it hard for Fu to walk. Congenital scoliosis is caused by the bones in the spine developing abnormally in the womb.

David Barajas (pictured above) has been acquitted by a jury in Texas court after he allegedly shot dead the man who killed his two young sons, David Jr 12, and Caleb, 11. Barajas had been standing trial over the shooting death of Jose Banda, 20, who was found dead in his car shortly after an accident in Houston, Texas.

OK, this is getting confusing. On Tuesday August 26th, Nigeria's Health Minister, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu said there was only case of Ebola in Nigeria, now he's confirmed that a doctor indeed died in Port Harcourt from Ebola. His name is Ikye Enemoah.

Speaking with newsmen in Abuja today, the Minister said the doctor died on Friday Aug. 22nd after treating a diplomat who had direct contact with Patrick Sawyer, the first case of Ebola virus disease in Nigeria. He said laboratory analysis on his corpse showed he died from Ebola.

Following the death of Port Harcourt based doctor, Iyke Enemoah, from Ebola on August 22nd, 70 people in Port Harcourt who had primary and secondary contacts with the doctor and the hospital where he worked have now been put under surveillance in a bid to stop the spread of the deadly virus in the city.

Dr. Enemoah's wife is the only one who has been quarantined.

Gunmen attack army camp in Bauchi, Commander killed

Unknown gunmen at about 5.20 this morning August 28th attacked an Army camp manned by six armed soldiers at Wunti -Dada, a suburb of Bauchi state, killing the commander of the camp and a soldier.

According to reports by The Nation, the unknown gunmen arrived the camp in two motorcycles immediately after the early morning Muslim prayers and opened fire, killing the commander and the soldier.

Wunti-Dada has been one of the known security challenge points within the state capital with a lot of unusual incidents. Both the Bauchi state Police Public relations officer and the the 33 Artillery Brigade spokesman have refused to comment on the development.

Enugu state gets new deputy Governor

48 hours after Sunday Onyebuchi was impeached as the deputy governor of Enugu state for rearing chickens in his official quarters, members of the Enugu state house of Assembly today Aug. 28th, confirmed clergy man and politician, Ralph Nwoye as the new deputy governor of the state.

Mr Ralph Nwoye, a pastor of the Christ Ascension Church in Enugu, is said to be a former Local government chairman. He is expected to be sworn-in as deputy governor soon.

According to reports, Hollywood royalty Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who have been together for 9 years and share 6 children, are now married.

The couple's publicist said they quietly got married last weekend Saturday 23rd at a very private ceremony attended by family and friends in Chateau Miraval, France. Angie and Brad's kids are said to have participated in the wedding. Her oldest two sons, Maddox and Pax walked her down the aisle, while their daughters Shiloh and Knox served as ring bearers. Omololu Onasanya, the daughter of the Managing Director of First Bank of Nigeria, Bisi Onasanya recently married her man, Olusola Olagunsoye. Mr Ho, 50, was dismantling a property in Guangxi Province in China when a steel rod fell from above. Miraculously, he managed to survive the rod's impact, entering through the right side of his forehead and exiting through the left side of his jaw.

Paramedics called to treat Mr Ho were astounded to find him entirely conscious and lucid, despite the inch-thick rod embedded inside him.

After having fire fighters removed most of the metal bar outside his head, Mr Ho was moved to a larger hospital for further treatment. Complex emergency surgery allowed doctors to remove the remainder successfully and staff say Mr Ho is recovering well and out of danger.
