Donald Trump has boasted that he could shoot someone in the middle of a crowded street, without it affecting his popularity.

The frontrunner in the race to be named the Republican candidate for the White House, Mr Trump made the comments at a campaign rally in Iowa.

He faced an immediate backlash amid accusations of insensitivity, after a spate of killings in America has pushed the debate about gun violence to the top of the political agenda.

But when asked to clarify his comments after the rally, he refused to comment.

Buhari’s Anti- Corruption War Becoming ‘Selective’- Falae

The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Chief Olu Falae, has said the anti-corruption campaign by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government is “beginning to look selective”.

Falae was recently named as one of the beneficiaries of the $2.1bn meant for arms procurement, which was allegedly diverted by former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki. He has, however, repeatedly denied having any contact with Dasuki saying he got the money from a PDP chieftain and not Dasuki. Asked to assess the ongoing anti-corruption campaign, he told a Punch correspondent;

“It is getting out of hand. They know that there is no charge they can bring against me, that is why smear campaign is used as a substitute so that over time people will say I am a bad man.

“I read some articles in the paper that talked about ‘the increasingly controversial anti-graft war’. It is truly becoming controversial because it is no longer reasonable; it is beginning to look selective. How could you link me with Dasuki? The person I have not seen for more than 20 years. The man I had no dealing with whatsoever,” he queried. 

Top Level Civil Servants Sacked for Collecting N400,000 from Nigerians for Employment

Some top officials of the Civil Service have been dismissed by the Federal Government for extorting money from 400 applicants and offering them employment illegally. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, disclosed in Lagos at a meeting with some selected On-Air-Personalities.

He said that the affected officers were on Grade Level 17 in one of the parastatals in the ministry.

MASSOB Lied, We Do Not Recognize Their Passport, US, UK Authorities

The governments of the United States and the United Kingdom have said they do not recognise the passports being issued by the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra.

The National Director of Information, MASSOB, Sunny Okereafor, had said two weeks ago that the passport was valid worldwide, adding that the travel document costs N5,000 while its renewal costs N2,000

He had said, “I assure you that the Biafran passport is valid. Except Nigeria, other countries of the world accept Biafran passport and allow our citizens to travel with it. In Europe, North and South America, Biafran passport is accepted. Nigeria is the only country that seizes Biafran passport. Go to neighbouring Ghana here, they will stamp the passport for you. Don’t be confused by the propaganda of the Nigerian government that there is nothing like Biafra passport.

Sad Story Of 2 Drug Addicts Who Are Fathers

A suspected drug addict arrested by the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Command has disclosed that he made over N300, 000 monthly from begging in Ikeja.

Kehinde Olatubosun, 56, from Ibadan, Oyo State, was arrested on Saturday night along with 18 other drug addicts at a joint in Ipodo, Ikeja. A team of Rapid Response Squad Decoy had on Monday night traced a stolen phone to the joint, leading to the arrest of a three-man gang mobile phone thieves, three hard drug peddlers and 13 drug addicts, the police said in a statement on Sunday.

Youths Protest Unemployment In Tunisia

Protests over youth unemployment have spread to several towns and cities in Tunisia, leading to the death of a policeman in clashes on Thursday. Demonstrations began in the northern Kasserine region after a man was electrocuted while protesting at being rejected for a government job.

Policeman Who Raped Vulnerable Women While On Duty Jailed For 263 Years

A former police officer convicted of raping and s3xually assaulting women while on duty has been sentenced to 263 years in prison. Disgraced Oklahoma City officer Daniel Holtzclaw , 29, preyed on women who had trouble with the law, hoping their word would not stand up against his.

Holtzclaw was charged with s3xually assaulting and raping 13 women and found guilty of 18 of the 36 charges, including four of the six rape charges.

District Judge Timothy Henderson said Holtzclaw will serve the terms consecutively and denied his request for an appeal bond.
