Man Arrested By Ondo Police Over Child Theft



Ondo state police command has arrested one Adewole Rotimi for attempting to steal a 2-month-old baby boy from his parents residence.

The middle-aged man unlawfully entered the private apartment of one Mrs. Oladele Blessing located in GRA, Ondo town and attempted stealing the child who was sleeping beside his mother.

The mother was said to have raised an alarm which attracted residents in the area who rushed to the scene.

The suspect would have been lynched if not for the timely intervention of policemen who arrived the scene.

He was arrested by the anti-crime detectives attached to Yaba Divisional Police Headquarters, Ondo and taken to the station for questioning, National Mirror reports.

Confirming to incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Wole Ogodo, said the suspect had entered the victim’s bedroom at night and tried to steal her baby but he was unlucky as he was caught in the act.

He said the matter was being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department, CID section, adding that the suspect would soon be charged to court for prosecution, after the conclusion of investigation.

The case of child theft is becoming rampant. Some days back, a 2-year-old girl who was stolen from parents home in Lagos on July 4, was found at the airport.

Also in June, a one-year-old baby was snatched by an unknown teenage girl during a wedding ceremony at Umuezeala Umuozu village in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State.
