Man Kills friend over N100 debt in Enugu

A middle-aged vulcaniser, Stephen Eze, allegedly hacked his friend and business neighbour, Mr. Ikenna Anayo Omeje, to death over N100 debt.

A source told Saturday Sun that the suspect, Mr. Eze and the deceased had been the best of friends for close to three years before the ugly incident.

According to the source, trouble started, when the deceased was said to have decided to build his own shop few metres away from his friend’s workshop.

The suspect was said to have warned him several times that he had become arrogant because he had made money to build his own shop and buy a new motorbike.

However, on that Thursday morning, Mr. Omeje took his motorbike to the suspect’s shop to change its back tube, and was charged N300. He paid N200 and promised to pay the balance of N100 in the evening.

It was gathered that when the suspect left for Nsukka to buy some materials, Omeje went to his workshop and collected the repaired motorbike.

The source further said that, when the suspect returned and couldn’t see the motorbike, he sent his apprecntice to the deceased’s shop to bring back the motorbike or collect the balance of the money.

The apprentice went and delivered his master’s message. However, Omeje told him that he had resolved to pay his master in the evening. This didn’t go down well with the boy, as he decided to roll back the motorbike to their workshop.

The deceased then followed him, and when they got to his workshop, he was said to have asked Eze the reason he asked his boy to collect the motorbike.

It was then a quarrel ensued and the suspect allegedly hit him on the head with a rod and he fell and became unconscious.

According to the source, when the suspect discovered that the deceased had lost much blood, he locked his door and fled. Omeje was immediately rushed to Nwaossai Foundation Hospital, Orba, where he died yesterday.

However, some youths in the community who were infuriated by the circumstance surrounding the death of Mr Omeje launched a manhunt for the suspect, and was apprehended when he came to collect his two children at Central Primary School, Orba.

The youths descended and beat him to coma, and wanted to set him ablaze, but for the timely arrival of policemen from Orba Police Post.

Saturday Sun investigation revealed that Omeje until his gruesome death was the only surviving male child of his family as his elder brothers had also died tragically some years ago.

‘Presidency not do or die’ - Sultan warns Jonathan, Buhari

Ahead of the general elections, scheduled to begin on Saturday, March 28, 2015, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ ad Abubakar, yesterday, warned the gladiators, especially President Goodluck Jonathan and Major General Muhammadu Buhari against taking the election as do-or-die affair.

Jonathan, the incumbent president, is running on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while Buhari is the presidential candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

The elections, initially slated to hold on February 14 and 28, generated heat in the polity before they were rescheduled for March 28 and April 11.

The Sultan spoke on a day Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State urged politicians to defend the nation’s democracy.

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State also urged elder statesmen and national leaders to speak out against issues that could provoke violence during the general elections.

Abubakar told Jonathan, Buhari and other contestants in the general elections that winners of polls had been pre-destined by God, wondering why some of them view elections as a do-or-die affair.

“While they struggle for electoral success, they should also consider the well-being of the country after elections,” the leader of the Muslim community in Nigeria and also the President, Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), stated.

The Sultan spoke when the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Johnson Olawumi, paid pre-election advocacy visit to his palace in Sokoto.

He called on security agencies to protect corps members and other personnel that will be involved in the conduct of the general elections.

Nigerian universities will rank among world's best in 4 years - Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed optimism that Nigerian universities would rank among the best in the world in the next four years, as a result of the ongoing transformation of the education system.

Jonathan, who featured in the Presidential Debate organised by the Nigeria Elections Debate Group on Sunday in Abuja, said that Nigerian universities had been equipped to compete with their foreign counterparts.

Jonathan said that education was a responsibility of both states and the federal governments, adding that the present administration gives support to the states through the Universal Basic Education Commission.

Jonathan said, “We all feel bad that no Nigerian university was ranked but we are working seriously to change the trend.

“We have equipped most of our universities through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.

“We are talking about infrastructure that has failed over the years but with the way we are going, in the next four years our universities will compete with other universities across the world.

Also speaking, Mr Godson Okoye, the presidential candidate of United Democratic Party, decried the situation where people who had benefited from free education turned education to business.

“We must re-engineer education right from nursery schools; teachers training colleges must be revisited,” he said.

Prof. Oluremi Sonaiya, the presidential candidate of KOWA party, said the whole focus should not be on formal education but a broad-based education.

Patoranking Blows Hot In New Interview!

Dancehall king and rave of the moment who is actually not up to two years in the music industry has said it all in this new interview with Saturday Beats. According to Patoranking, ladies inspired him to start singing reggae songs. He was forced to listen to most of them in his secondary school days so that girls could trip for him. Pato also says Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay like people think, do not twerk for him, but they only try to perfect their acts on stage like it is done in the western world. He also said the young boy a lot of people have said is his, is actually his mother’s last child and he adores him.

Then finally he said what will make girls seat up. Pato is single with no girlfriend! And erm this might break your heart; he says instead of laying with girls when he feels horny, he rather gets a soap and hit the bathroom to do the needful- you know now, masturbating! Oh dear, don’t you just love his openness? Lol. And hmm, I never knew all these Lagos girls who attend every show are not even fascinating, so none of you can trap Patoranking down? Oga ho, so until Patoranking too will go to another African country like Davido and Ice Prince to get a girlfriend before you know whats up? Keep disappointing us ho, just keep it up. Lol. Oya read the interesting interview below.....

The Borno State-born pastor, Kallamu Musa-Dikwa, who affirmed the allegation that President Goodluck Jonathan gave the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, N7b to support his re-election bid, has cried out over threats to his life by operatives of the Directorate of State Service (DSS).

While insisting that the Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor-led CAN collected the said amount, Pastor Dikwa said the DSS had forced him to sign a document which they would use against him to prove to the entire world that “the President (Jonathan) did not bribe CAN to work against the presidential candidate of APC”, General Muhammadu Buhari.

Only a bastard will vote Jonathan – Yorubas at Ibadan Summit

The historic Parliament Building in Ibadan was over-filled as prominent Yoruba in all professions, princes and monarchs, governors and former governors, gathered to articulate their aspirations and minimum demands from the Federal Government.

The high point of the summit, convened by the illustrious Yoruba retired army general, Alani Akinrinade was the total support given the presidential candidate of the APC, General Muhammadu Buhari.

The summiteers declared unanimously, “It is Buhari or nobody else”.

A major proponent of this declaration, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade who was represented by High Chief Eddy Oyewole said, "On 28 March, 2015, let us vote for Buhari."

He condemned the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for wasting the meager resources of the country by lavishly bribing various individuals and groups to secure their supports.

I’m Not Desperate For Power – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has explained why he remained unperturbed in spite of the negative things said or written against him, saying “I’m not desperate to remain in office as president.”

He counseled politicians vying and scrambling for elective positions both at the federal and state level not to be desperate. He stated this at a public launch of a book by Rev. Fr. Charles Imokhai.

Noting that he was not desperate to remain in office, Jonathan said:
“My second message is to all of us, especially those of us who are politicians, that for all of us who want to serve, we should ‎be ready to serve but we should not be desperate to serve our people.

“Sometimes, people ask me that Mr. President, from what we read and what we see, we see you still smiling and unruffled. Yes, nothing will really ruffle me because I am willing and ready to serve but I am not desperate to serve. That is what keeps me going.

“All of us who want to hold offices from the least, a counselor of a ward or a chairman of a council, a member of the state House of Assembly or member of House of Representatives, Senate, Governor or the President, if all of us are always ready and willing to serve our people but we are not desperate in that our mission, then of course Nigeria will be a better place for all of us”.

Noting that that most accounts of his life published so far are not accurate, the president described the story of his life as a humble one.

He said even though the book being launched yesterday provided an account that seems to be close to being accurate, he himself would write and publish the most accurate book after leaving office.

My Career as an Actress almost broke my Marriage

It's not easy managing education, work, business, etc with marriage as a woman. You need to develop some level of self-discipline to achieve that successfully. Below is what popular actress Iya Awero (Lanre Hassan) told Punch about the clash of her career and her marriage in the early days:

Why didn’t you marry someone from the industry?
My husband thought that when we got married, I would quit my acting career but I continued and we had a lot of tough times in our marriage because of that. It is just a pity that he is dead and cannot see what I have become. At a point, my ‘uncles’ in the industry had to sit him down to talk to him and convince him that our work was a legitimate one. He agreed but there were lots of fights, especially whenever I went to locations. But I handled the situation very well because I made him trust me. I made sure he knew my whereabouts at every point in time. I made him remember he met me as an actress and I was not cheating, and before long, he accepted. I must confess that my acting career almost broke my marriage but God was in control. I would advise actresses to be plain and open with their husbands.

I Regret Campaigning For Jonathan – Ex-Speaker Na’Abba

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and former member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Ghali Na’Abba has said in his 16 years sojourn in the PDP, the only regret he has is working for President Goodluck Jonathan’s election in 2011.

In his words: “My only regret is partaking in the election of Goodluck Jonathan. I have really regretted being among those who partook in the campaign to have him as the president of this country even though I did it altruistically but I think he has betrayed this country. What he said when we were going to begin was that he would work to ensure and sustain the unity of this country.

I Will Build 4 Refineries If You Vote Me As President —Buhari

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari has promised that he would go all out to build four new refineries for Nigeria if elected on March 28.

Buhari, who stated this during a town hall meeting on security, in Abuja, noted that: “I have said that the APC as a party has identified three fundamental problems in this country. You cannot repeat them so often, because everybody talks about them. They are insecurity, the destruction of the economy and corruption, which has become a vicious cycle.

“The state of insecurity, as we said when the election was extended by six weeks, is that if the government and military could me not tame Boko Haram for 5 years, what will they do in 6 weeks?

“But I think that some positive moves have been made, though we are still at it. The first thing they should have done is to make sure that you have a good plan on the ground to take care of the welfare of the law enforcement agents,” he stated.

On the missing Chibok girls, he said, “it is really a great embarrassment to this country. Since Independence, I don’t think we have been reduced to such a position as a nation, imagine the disappearance of 220 girls between the ages 14 and 18 for almost a year and government could not do anything about it and this same government says it wants to remain in place?”

Why is UNIPORT hiding details of Jonathan’s doctorate degree?

The University of Port Harcourt has declined a Freedom of Information, FOI, request for the doctorate degree records of President Goodluck Jonathan.

In a response to the Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, a Rivers State-based civil society organization, the university said a request for President Jonathan’s academic records did not fall within the provisions of the FOI law. “The Management of the University has carefully considered your request vis-a-vis the FOI Act,” the university stated in their letter dated 26th February, 2015, and signed by Eric Loveday Osuo Abonemi, the institution’s Legal Officer.

“It is my instructions to inform you that your request does not come within the relevant provisions of the FOI Act for its practicability or for the University to provide such details as requested.

“Details of the Ph.D Degree of President Goodluck Jonathan in the University of Port Harcourt cannot therefore be made available to you.”

Why Should Something Like This Ever Happen In Nigeria?

If we are now at a stage where people commit havoc openly in police presence, then there is trouble...!

FG reduces electricity tariff by 50%

Sam-Amadi-NERC1

Following complaints from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and other electricity consumers, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has announced a reduction in electricity tariffs by 50%.
Chairman of the Commission, Sam Amadi, who made this known Wednesday in Abuja, said the Commission had received several complaints and petitions against the decision to approve the multi-year tariff order, MYTO 2.1 on January 1, which led to astronomical increases in tariff across the different consumer categories.
He said the reduction will take effect from March ending.
Amadi said apart from the complaints by MAN that the tariffs were threatening their businesses and may lead to job losses, the commission also conducted public hearings on the affordability of the new tariffs and after consulting with the Chief Executive Officers of the Distribution Companies had decided to intervene in this way.
He said: “The Commission has reviewed the basis of the MYTO 2.1 assumptions and has determined that it is inappropriate to transfer to consumers collection losses that are controllable by the DISCOs (distribution companies).”
