US Embassy Partners BUK On Almajiri Programme
The Almajiri Project embarked upon by the management of Bayero University, Kano BUK has been backed by the American Embassy in Nigeria.
The backing comes as a partnership between BUK and the embassy on youth empowerment, particularly Almajiris in order to address societal problems.
Senior Public Affairs Officer of the US embassy, Mrs. Ellen Peterson, said the project was part of the initiatives of their Center for African Entrepreneurship, Education, Research and Training (CAERT), aimed at training vulnerable youths.
She said her agency in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) aim to assist institutions, agencies and non-governmental organizations in developing countries to address societal ills such as insecurity, poor educational standards among others.
The BUK Vice Chancellor, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, in his reaction said the partnership will go a long way in addressing youth restiveness
