The Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has warned personnel threatening to embark on strike over unpaid arrears of promotion of dire consequences of breaching extant rules and regulations.
Abba said that he was miffed that the officers had threatened to recourse to “unapproved channels to air their perceived grievances".
“As expected, every promotion attracts some financial benefits, and which have been deeply considered in the course of processing and approving the promotions.
“For the avoidance of doubt the Nigeria Police Force is working assiduously with relevant government departments and agencies to effect the payment of the promotion arrears. All promoted officers have since Jan. 2015 been enjoying the salaries attendant on their new ranks," he said.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, on Thursday in Abuja.
The I-G was reacting to a Punh report captioned, “Policemen Threaten Strike over unpaid salaries”.
He said that the leadership of the force was mindful of its responsibility to the welfare of the workforce, part of which was recognition of hard work and promotion.
Abba reminded the officers that the force was founded on the bedrock of discipline and loyalty, adding that police regulations had provided enough windows for aggrieved officers to express their grievances.
