The operatives of Edo State Police Command eliminated six alleged kidnappers along Igbanke-Ewohimi Road in Esan, South East Local Government Area of the state in southern Nigeria, 15 June.
According to the information provided by the Edo State Police Commissioner Mr. Foluso Adebanjo, the gun battled sparked when operatives together with four suspects headed to the malefactors’ hiding place. Once they penetrated into enemy territory the kidnappers immediately opened fire on them.
During the operation two of the kidnappers were shot dead while four others tried to escape. The operatives tracked down those who escaped from the crime scene, they later died in Stella Obasanjo Hospital of injuries incompatible with life.
A C-Class Mercedes Benz car with registration number AGL 133 CX, $8,200; 20,000 Francs CFA; Five Dirhams (United Arab Emirate currency), N8,500, 12 sim cards, four cut to size single barrel gun, 72 live cartridges and one locally made revolver pistol were recovered from them.
The bodies of the suspected kidnappers were displayed to journalists at the State Police Command in Benin. The operation was conducted after a woman had been kidnapped in a forest around the Igbanke-Ewohimi road. The search for other members of the kidnap group continues.
