Craziest Ancient Birth Control Methods

Birth control is a perpetually controversial issue, rife with politics and usually involving religious and personal beliefs. For a brief moment, however, let's put contention aside and collectively reflect on how fortunate  women are today to have access to safe and medically sound contraceptives. As you may already know, it wasn't always this way.
Here's how it was done B.C:

MercuryAncient Chinese women used to drink Mercury after sex to prevent pregnancy which it did because dead women can't get pregnant.

Lemons: Jewish women once inserted lemons into their vaginas so that the citric acid can act as a form of spermicide.

Crocodile faeces: As far back as 1850 BC, Egyptian women  used a pleasant mixture of crocodile faeces and honey as contraception.

Cotton: In ancient Egypt, cotton was covered in a mixture of dates, honey and tree bark then inserted into the vagina prior to sex.

Blood-letting: A 17th Century Physician believed that semen was blood turned white by the heat of sex. He suggested that men should blood-let to reduce their libidos which makes sence because abstinence and fainting are the 'safest' forms of contraception- aren't they?

Onion Juice: Ancient Egyptian men who did not want to have babies would bathe in onion juice or apply it directly to their penis.

Coitus Obstructus: Ancient chinese men would press hard on the spot between their scrotum and anus to delay ejaculation thinking it sent semen back up the spine and into the brain.

**Aren't We All Very Grateful To Be Alive In The 21st Century??
