Couple of years back I read an article about how antiperspirants are the leading cause of breast cancer. The article said deodorants that are aluminium based should not be used. It went further to explain how antiperspirant prevents the body from "purging toxins," which, when trapped, find their way into the lymph nodes, where they concentrate and contribute to the cellular changes that lead to cancer.
Antiperspirants are used to prevent body odour and keep one smelling fresh. They work by blocking your sweat glands and prevent you from sweating. Body odour is caused by sweat coming in contact with bacteria. This probably explains why some people who use ordinary deodorants start to smell bad after a while. They don't give the 24 hour effect antiperspirants do.
Well I've known this for quite a while but I just cant stop using antiperspirant. And I know I'm not the only one. With the weather situation in this blessed country of ours, what would some of us do without antiperspirant.....not just any antiperspirant but Sure!
Recently I read that some prominent hollywood celebrities have boycotted antiperspirants-
Cameron Diaz revealed that she hasn't used deodorant in almost 20 years.
"I don't believe in antiperspirant. It's really bad for you. I haven't used it for almost 20 years," the 41-year-old actress told E! News at the Los Angeles premiere of "The Other Woman" on April 21. "You're stinky, because you use antiperspirant. It keeps all the stink in."
Diaz believes that both men and women should let their pits breathe, telling the website, "Let it go and just trim your armpit hair so it doesn't hold onto the scent."
Ir's been reported that the actress is often seen with pit stains on the red carpet, and there have also been rumors that she has issues with body odor.
A few years back, Matthew McConaughey also said he hasn't worn deodorant in 20 years, and revealed that his "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" co-star Kate Hudson couldn't stand it, telling Playboy, "She always brings a salt rock, which is some natural deodorant, and says, 'Would you please put this on?'"
Likewise, Bradley Cooper has also spoken about the fact he doesn't use deodorant or cologne, first revealing to Esquire in 2011, that when he hosted "Treks in a Wild World" back in 2000 he learned that the body "self-cleans," and then in 2012 he told the magazine, “Yeah, I don’t use deodorant really any more. I do take a lot of showers, so maybe that helps. In the morning and then at night. And after I work out, I’ll take a shower. So maybe three a day."
Hmmmm....some people have an unforgivable stench. So abeg if you are one of those who has decided to boycott antiperspirants and deodorants please consider the people around you and try some natural remedy- spritz with vinegar, shave your under arms, try some anti bacterial cream, bath as often as possible. For ladies wash your bra daily if you sweat alot, fellas try one boxer shorts a day instead of two or three days.......just please do something to help yourself and those who have to be in your company.
I've heard that most people who have body odour are actually unaware of it....hmmmm na there wahala dey o. So how do you now break it to them without embarrassing them? I don't like hurting people's feelings but some things are better said that unsaid.
So abeg how do we go about telling a friend or a colleague that they stink without hurting their feelings?
