Who will investigate the General & Others for Rigging in Ekiti

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for a full-scale probe of the role of the military in a secretly recorded audio tape, now viral on the social media, on how the last Ekiti State governorship election was rigged and its open intimidation of the opposition.

The national publicity secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who made the call at a press briefing held in Lagos, said given the ignoble role of the military in previous elections, the monitoring of elections should be left to officers of the Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

To clear its image, Mohammed said the military, Presidency and the PDP must tell Nigerians what they know about the secretly-recorded audio tape of the meeting inside a hotel in Ado-Ekiti.
He said, “These audio and video tapes detail how some top officials of the federal government and the PDP, including the then minister of state for defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, police affairs minister Jelili Adesiyan, PDP chieftain Iyiola Omisore, the then PDP governorship candidate Ayo Fayose and the Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. Aliyu Momoh, among others, used the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to rig the governorship election in Ekiti”.

The APC scribe who played the audio revealing the interview with Captain Koli added, “As you can hear and see, the army played a major role in the rigging of the June 21, 2014 Governorship election in Ekiti State. As Capt. Koli said, a total of 1,006 military officers and men were deployed to Ekiti, as part of a so-called Special Task Force, for the election”.

He said soldiers were deployed to each of the 16 local governments with the express instruction to ‘work’ with the PDP contacts in the local governments, while special stickers were given to select PDP officials to ensure that their vehicles were granted an unfettered access to any part of the state, despite the traditional election day restriction of movement.
Mohammed said, “With another election coming, and the military again having been used to postpone the elections by six weeks, it is obvious that the PDP and the Jonathan administration have not learnt their lessons, and that they will continue to abuse the military, a national institution and a symbol of national unity, so that they can win elections at all costs”.
