Senator Makanjuola Ajadi, the Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters to President Goodluck Jonathan, at the weekend spoke on the sole candidature of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2015 presidential election.
The Special Adviser, who spoke with Vanguard in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, described the development as the best thing to happen to Nigeria as a country. He expressed optimism that no party could defeat the PDP in the state, and assured that Kwarans would vote massively for President Jonathan.
“There is nobody who can defeat PDP in 2015 election. If it happens, do not call me Senator again; remove Senator from my name because it would not happen. Tell me who are the people remaining in Kwara APC in Kwara State?”
The Senator while explaining the adoption of President Jonathan as PDP sole candidate, explained that, it was the practice all over the world for a sitting President to be given first option of refusal, and urged other political parties to emulate PDP in the future.
He insisted that the norm everywhere, is that a serving president is always given the first option of refusal, adding that is only when he refuses that alternative would now be looked into. He said the decision was one of the best things that have ever happened in the political development of the country.
“Everybody knows all over the world that sitting Presidents are always given the first option of refusal to re-contest. Are we saying, we are still blind and we cannot see what is going on all over the world? This is a lesson for all other political parties in Nigeria to emulate in future. If anybody is on seat and he is performing well and he is willing to go for second term, it should be automatic ticket as it happened to President Jonathan” he said.
It would be recalled that on September 19, 2014, fresh facts emerged on why the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) chose President Jonathan as its sole candidate in the 2015 presidential election. In a reaction, the President said he was humbled and overwhelmed by the decision, and promised not to disappoint Nigerians and his party.
