Poor Family Is Forced To Come Back To Nigeria

Nigerian mother Winifred Agimelen was refused to stay extra 5 months in Canada to receive an answer on her sponsorship application. She and her three kids were deported to Nigeria on Sunday, September 14th.

Winifred Agimelen  is 36 years ld. She has three kids age 11, 8 and 5. Her youngest daughter is Canadian by birth. But now Canadian children are deportated with their parents. This is only one of dozens of deportations in Canada. Plenty of them involve family separations.
Winifred Agimelen  was living in Canada for 6 years. She courageously left Nigeria after she and two of her oldest children were kidnapped. After this trauma her son Aaron Afuah was diagnosed with PTSD, ADHD and speech delay. And her daughter was threatened with genital mutilation.

In Canada she got married and her husband in February 2014 applied to be her sponsor. This procedure can take a year approximately. In august she was told that she and her two oldest children would be departed. And the government of Canada won`t wait for her application to be approved. Her five-years old youngest daughter Elizabeth could be left in Canada.
Agimelen said:
“I’m worried about the safety of my children because there is so much violence in Nigeria. There’s news about kidnapping children in Nigeria. There’s Boko Haram and Ebola in Nigera, it gives me so much fear for me and my children”
Her lawyer applied for an extension to the deportation. They hoped they would be allowed not to leave Canada, but their application was denied.
